Rotary Club of Brevard Sponsors 14th Annual 4th of July Firecracker 5K and 10K Races

The Rotary of Brevard, proudly announces The 14th Annual FIRECRACKER 5K and 10K RACES, which feature a newly Certified course through beautiful downtown Brevard, NC.   “Our Certified courses meet all USATF requirements,” said Sammy Kicklighter, president of the downtown club. “Our racing events are attracting runners from all over the U.S. Many come to run and most stay for the downtown festivals. Brevard’s Annual 4th of July Festival provides runners with the opportunity to enjoy fabulous music, food and fun after the run!”

Check-in tents for the races’ 8 a.m. shotgun start will be set-up at in the green space at 299 S. Broad St. next to the public library.  Registration begins at 6:30 AM, but runners are encouraged to pre-register online at to guarantee a spot and a FREE t-shirt.

The cost to participate is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K ($5 additional after pre-registration cut-off, June 24th ).  Students 18 and under pay $20 for either race as do Seniors 65+.

Timing is provided by SETUPEVENTS, using Championship Chips.  The first 250 pre-registrants receive a free race T-shirt and medals will be awarded to overall winners, male and female and in each age category in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.  Pre-registration and all information is on-line at:

The Rotary Club of Brevard hosts three races each year.  The 4th of July, the Flight of the Vampire 5K during Halloweenfest and the White Squirrel 5K and 10K in May.  Proceeds from the races go directly back to community projects.  Rotary is an international organization of business and professional leaders whose main objective is service above self – in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. Rotarians develop projects that address critical issues, such as children at risk, illiteracy, worldwide polio eradication and programs for youth career development as well as to honor our Veterans through the Honor Air program.  Locally, the Rotary Club of Brevard donates time and money to local charitable organizations including the United Way and the Salvation Army.  In addition, the club awards scholarships to local students attending Brevard College and Blue Ridge Community College. The Brevard club was instrumental in creating and hosting the week-long RYLA Leadership Camp (at Brevard Music Center) for up and coming leaders from high schools throughout Western North Carolina. Brevard Rotary hosts Career Day for Transylvania 10th graders, provides dictionaries to all 3rd graders and participates in many other local projects and programs.

The Rotary Club of Brevard meets for lunch at 12 noon each Tuesday in downtown Brevard (at The Quarry Restaurant) and welcomes new members and guests.
